Analyzing Custom Address Lists in Peril Query

Learn how to create a custom User Configuration, apply it to a Peril Query, and evaluate post-event impacts on third-party address lists.

Overview

When evaluating event impacts against 3rd-party address lists—such as non-standard office locations, agent sites, or underwritten properties—that lack an existing company configuration, you must first create a custom User Configuration to link your dataset to Opterrix aggregations.

Prerequisites

Before you can create a configuration and run your query, ensure you have the following in place:

  • Imported Location File: Ensure your custom address dataset is uploaded and geocoded in Opterrix via My Data > Import Data.
(For detailed configuration guidance, see My Data: Import Datasets.)

Step 1: Open the Configuration Editor

The Metrics tab stays blank until a layer is active, so start with whichever your are more familiar with:

  • If your dataset is already a map layer: Open the Layers tab, find your dataset's layer, and click its Metrics icon. This opens the Custom Metrics editor directly.
  • If not: Open the Peril Query tool, select any Peril Type and Date, choose any existing configuration (not "None") from the Configuration dropdown, and click Run Query. Then open the Metrics tab and click the edit icon next to Configuration.

Either way, you'll land in the same Custom Metrics editor. From there:

  1. Expand Data Setup and select your uploaded custom location table from the search list.
  2. Expand Metrics Setup to define your aggregation parameters:
    • Group By: Select the categorical column (such as Line of Business, Office Type, or Region) to organize your results.
    • Display Metrics: Select one or more numerical columns (such as Total Insured Value, Headcount, or Square Footage) to calculate summary statistics.
  3. Enter a distinct configuration name and click Save to store it for current and future queries.

(For detailed configuration guidance, see Metrics Configs Guide.)

Step 2: Apply Your Custom Configuration in Peril Query

  1. Open the Peril Query tool by clicking the Search icon within the Tabs Menu.
  2. Select the desired Peril Type and event Date.
  3. In the Metric Configuration drop-down menu, select the custom User Configuration you created in Step 1.

Step 3: Run Query and Review Results

  1. Click Run Query to perform an inner join between the hazard footprint and your address points.
  2. Open the Metrics tab to review aggregated statistics and group breakdowns calculated specifically for your dataset.
  3. (Optional) Open the Query Filters tab to adjust peril severity thresholds or draw a Metric Geo Filter region to isolate specific geographic areas.

Step 4: Export Impacted Location Data

In the Metrics tab, click Download to extract your query results:
